Under smith, there seemed to be a deluded view that we had a top 2 squad that was under performing.
I don't think anyone thinks that now, but we might have a squad capable of hitting the playoffs. As it stands though, even under Wagner, we haven't really shown that - Preston and Coventry performances were encouraging, as was Hull (prob the best of them all), Burnley, Bristol City and Wigan were all pretty poor though, with the performances looking not dissimilar to the type of thing Smith served up.
Other than Burnley, none of those sides are particularly good.
For what it's worth, I think Wagner is the better option, but I don't agree that Smith was particularly taking the squad backwards so much as the squad was simply demonstrating its ability.
