The squad is generally young, and there is scope for them to build into a team. The lack of progress in terms of gelling, rather than results, was (and remains) my gripe with Smith.

It was also why I was interested to see how he did when we had that purple patch in the Prem, but injuries and some strange tactical choices didn't allow us to build on that.

I'd take your point more if the players (both individually, and collectively) hadn't performed better both before and after their tenure.

But naturally the strength of the squad does also play a part (altho they did have a couple of transfer windows too)
