The NATO thing has some credence to it though. If it wasn’t an instigator it has at least been a PR gift for putin.

But yes. He wants to be the new Tsar. And the west seems to be constantly convinced that he wants another Soviet Union and that’s how they are strategising, or at least how they are spinning it to the western public. It’s a very different thing.
