Had similar in a very nice hotel in Luxor

Egyptian Govt had taken over the cheap wing we were meant to be in. So instead we had a nice balcony room in the Victorian part of the Winter Palace overlooking the gardens. Very 'Death on the Nile'.

Felt a bit sorry for the concierge chap on reception who was dead excited to tell us about the upgrade. He started off with "I'm sorry Mr CWC, we don't appear to have a booking for you in the Pavilion..." and Mrs CWC went absolutely apoplectic, started berating me for being a fecking idiot, and stormed off.

Five days prior, we'd checked in to our Cairo hotel to discover I'd booked it for the wrong month...

(for the rest of the stay the still-mortified concierge kept giving us little freebies and upgrades to apologise for getting me into trouble. He got a very big tip!)
