1 point is losing ground not playing catchup
You now have less point opportunities going forward. Drawing or losing are practically identical with our GD.

For those who don't understand the math here goes.
The three teams above us will probably average around 0.8 points per game. So just taking Everton alone they will reach approx 32-33 points. So to have any chance to overtake them (34 points) we now need 16 points from 8 games. (HINT: only the top two have this form!) and we have 18 points from 30 games...
