to echo this - university rep is so dependent on recruiter preconceptions too

I'd recruit someone from York over Loughborough.

Entirely prejudiced view as I know nothing about Loughborough other than its rep when I was going through uni 20 years ago. My view of York is based entirely on people I've worked with who went there.

Someone in a scientific role, or who has been there, or who graduated more recently, or worked with Loughboro grads, might have a completely different view to me.

So that shows what a fat lot of good university rankings are.
