Interestingly that’s what Gossy said and definitely what I thought but apparently it’s not

the case. They weigh exactly the same (although it’s possible that newer ones are better at resisting retaining water now). However, the wetness of balls isn’t doing the damage. It’s to do with physics! There’s some formula (something like half mass x velocity squared though don’t quote me!) and as modern balls travel so much quicker they can do much more damage
