Part of the problem is his stubbornness....

I think the malcky situation sums it up quite well.

Malcky was sold (and I must admit I didnt think he would be up to the premiership)

BUT
he was replaced by Charlie to begin with (very worrying and created the shortest defense in premiership history), Simon Charlton was never a player I had been impressed with and coming from Southampton I new a lot about him from many years ago.

An uninspiring player, hard working but ok. not a great defender, or great coming forwards just a solid player. the fact he was a hard working player was probably the reason he playedin the premiership all these years.

anyway it become obvious we needed some height at the back so whom does he bring in - Gary Doherty, unfit, never really made the step up to the premiership - What i most remember about him was his ability to give away penalties at tottenham and scoring the odd goal when played or pushed up front. I couldnt beleive at 1 million pounds we were going to sign him.

The only reason we got to sign him was because worthy's first choice - the uninspiring right sided Simon Charlton, Linvoy Primus turned us down to stay ojn an improved offer. Again like charlton a hard working player but nothing special

None of these players looked like the future, and neither of the two we signed have been great. Malcky probably not good enough at prem level replaced by two players also not good enough for the premiership for a price of 1.2 million.

Fortunatly Gary Doherty is doing a decent job as part of a poor defensive unit in the championship, altho is not contributing any goals like he perhaps ought to be....

Malckys leadership and organisational skills have not been replaced, and his towering presence at corners and set peices has also been missed both in defense and in attack.....
