anyone tried haggling over mobile phone contracts?

My 02 online contract is up next month and I've heared from various people that if you claim you've got a great deal elsewhere, your current provider will often try hard to match it. I remember that when I left singlepoint o2 they mentioned something about offering to match my new deal but I'd already left by then..

Anyone got any advice, my idea was to ring all the major companies up and try and get them to better each other's deals?
