Complicated questions have complicated answers.
I don't think 'Boris should ban Christmas'. I do think the government position is correct in that meeting over Christmas is not illegal but also not advised. I do also think that there will be a very large number of deaths from Christmas infections.
My view is that each family needs to make their own decision given the circumstances unique to them and that a blanket edict isn't really appropriate. Each family needs to make an informed decision and take responsibility for the consequences of that choice.
My family are very much not meeting up for Christmas, I know many in the same position. I also know many that have decided to meet up with the elderly relatives. That is their prerogative. They are aware of the risks. I don't think Boris' opinion carries as much weight as Granny's opinion on the matter.
I am expecting to have Christmas some time in March, post vaccination of my parents. If others decide to have Christmas together, they need to take responsibility for that decision.
