A more comprehensive review is needed…

These are savvy businessmen who are not doing this for selfless purposes. Even if they were they won’t be around forever and their companies will be passed to others who maybe less altruistic.

The short term handouts being offered whilst needed by lower league clubs are insignificant compared to the money already spent by Premier Leagues clubs in the current transfer window. The changes to the number of Premier League teams, Cup competitions and parachute payments will cause short term disruption but will soon be forgotten about and accepted.

What concerns me are the the two core facets of the proposal. Rick Parry is lauding the 25% Premier Leagues fees being shared with the EFL however that will make the EFL totally dependent and beholden to the Premier League going forward. Couple that with the “special voting rights” being proposed and the result will be the top clubs having a disproportionate leverage over any future decision that affects the EFL.

What is required is a more root and branch review and proposal involving all stakeholders including supporters. The current EFL structure is not sustainable but the solution is not to sell its soul to the Premier League.
