I would have locked down harder and sooner as it happens. Not quite to NZ levels, but certainly made the most of being an island and having more ability to quarantine those coming in.

We didn't know what we were dealing with and it looked bad.

My beef is with how slowly it is being eased, the extreme pointlessness of a number of the very restrictive measures being implemented, and the lack of accountability.
