I had a Gunn & Moore Purist (size 6!). Was a quality wand, but although I preferred it’s styling, really, it wasn’t as good as the size 5 Kookaburra Bubble that it replaced....
It also broke after 1 season and I had to move on to a hunts county spirit, which served me very well despite being a bargain price.
Funny looking through his list, my brother had a short handle Slazenger V800 - decent bat! I bought (or rather my parents did) a Slazenger V100 for me at the same time - that was a total and utter dog of a cricket bat. If it had a middle, I don’t think anyone ever found it. It defined the word “plank”.
Such was my love / obsession with cricket, my 18th birthday present from my parents was a Gunn & Moore original 5 star willow Cannon. Looking back, it was too heavy for me really, but what a beast it was. As the article says, it was the type of bat that demanded aggressive batting, sadly I wasn’t sufficiently skilled at the crease to deliver it. But no tailender looked the part more than I did ;-)
