We didn't spend £1.5m. We spent many millions more than that on retaining the players who had formed in many people's opinions our best team for decades.
Spending more "to stay ahead of our plan" sounds dangerously like the reckless approach that nearly bankrupted us - and which with Naismith etc DIDN'T WORK THEN EITHER.
Once again, transfer spending does not equal success. Fulham etc etc etc etc.
We are debt-free and, having been mere moments from going out of business and LITERALLY NOT HAVING A CLUB TO SUPPORT, we are in the trustworthy sensible hands of people who have our long-term stability and success as their top priority. With that comes more a sustainable way in which to look up the table, not worry about falling down it.
"We have been let down by some at the club." Entitlement on a grand scale. They recruited Webber and Farke for a start. The club has been let down by people who moan endlessly and wish that night was day rather than backing the club we actually have and supporting the team that's actually on the pitch, not some fantasy one that doesn't exist.
