No, that’s pretty much how I feel

He was a special player for us even though it was for one season; I loved watching him; the money we got for him baled us out at a time when we really needed it; I therefore have a mild interest in him now and hope he does well; I also happen to think that he’d be a real asset to England if we ever start playing modern football.

For all those reasons, but especially the last one, I am mildly pleased when he makes a meaningless “team of the season so far” article.
