He made a really stupid comment. he apologised for it. He probably did not mean it quite how it came out. He may well have learnt a lot from the experience and be actively involved in campaigns supporting rape victims for all we know.
Is not the problem with our politics these days that people spend far too much time arguing and bickering over something that somebody may have once said on twitter or in a former career or said 20 years ago rather than focusing on what they are actually doing and what they stand for.
Fair enough if he's a persistent apologist for rapists and sexists then go for it but we won't have any suitable candidates left for any public office soon if every person who has ever said something stupid on social media or in public is going to be hounded for it forever and effectively prevented from standing.
