for Nissan keeping Sunderland open Brexit is the crucial immediate factor (they've already been promised a soft brexit by May)

even if we remain, then yeah in a generation or 2 the factory will still be closed, in all likelihood. (automation, transport modal shift, etc.)

for today's workers though, (the ones that voted 3 years ago) brexit is the bigger threat still, not AI or EV
