The problem is that the current model for capitalism isn't working for lots of people

Hence the rise of populism on the right and left.

The Brexit Right promise a deregulated free market Singapore off Europe as the solution. The Left offer a regulated social democratic model of capitalism (which isn't actually that radical, more akin to Germany or Scandinavia)

The problem with the centre ground is that it doesn't have an answer. Blairism worked beacuse the economy was fuelled by the financial bubble / immigration / rising house prices. This was then used to fund some good social programmes (e.g. Sure Start). However there were also travesties like PFI, Iraq. That model is broken now. It was most evident when Labour had its leadership contests and the moderates literally didn't have any kind of policy proposal to address the deep seated problems in the country.
