They go to university having received an “unconditional” offer even before they take their A levels, become political researchers and then migrate into being MPs without any life experience.
In the past we had MPs who were men of honour, great politicians across the spectrum such as Tony Benn, Enoch Powell, Barbara Castle, Michael Hestletine, David Owen etc. People of principal who stood up for what they believed in and fought for it. This together with Mavericks such as Tony Banks ensured that the Prime Ministers of the day were kept in check.
None of Today’s crop are fit to lace the boots of their predecessors. After Brown failed to call an election during his honeymoon period and therefore lost we have had nothing but sound bite leaders more keen to chase power than actually do things they truly believe in.
Sadly because of the work of a Machiavellian “adviser” there will probably only be a couple of principled MPs. Long live Dennis Skinner!
Surely the best example of sound bite “ten words” politics was yesterday when Boris the Bulls**tter wanted to honour Jo Cox by delivering Brexit. A cause that she was passionately against!
