David Coote (yesterday's ref) was promoted to Select Group 1 in May 2018, along with Simon Hooper. This is their 2nd season where they can be selected for Premier League fixtures.

Both have operated on Championship for a number of years in Select Group 2 and Coite has been an EFL ref since 2010, after previously being an assistant.

That's a lot if experience and you don't get higher up unless you really earn it. Obviously they won't her the most high pressure games (and that doesn't mean top teams, lots if other factors) but it isn't lack of experience.

Personally I thought he was ok yesterday, missed a penalty for Burnley but was generally ok.
