And surely high house prices would be a deterrent to immigrants, who generally aren't that highly paid?
The problem isn't particularly immigration, it is the building companies which deliberately restrict supply of new houses to artificially inflate the value/prices of the ones they do build. Also, local councils who do not really want affordable properties built because they attract the 'wrong sort' of people (i.e. the sort that bring with them social problems & costs for the council)
