Bad language is slang

And evolves generationally...

I've brought my daughter up to mind her language, primarily because the way in which you express yourself matters, particularly across generations.

Does bad language matter as much as tone or intent? I'd say no. If someone is lightheartedly swearing, that's a world different to aggressively swearing. But, to my mind, the aggression is more offensive than the words used.

As my grandfather taught me, swearing just means that you lack the ability to express yourself more clearly.

But I swear a lot at work (not at home) - as a form of emphasis (particularly with my juniors) it can be an effective way of conveying empathy with them.

Communication is a tricky thing, but is a tool.

People's values are flagged by the content of what they say. I can be tolerant of someone's poorly expressed views.

I have no obligation to be tolerant of the content of everyone's views.

Sorry, I got a bit rambly there.
