It seems absurd

Footballers are either innately blessed with talent and/or work their balls off to succeed. They, to be rather direct, aren't always renowned for financial acumen. E.g. Leroy Fer and the racehorse incident ;-) Sadly they seem to be regularly screwed over by agents and managers. Perhaps a simplistic answer would be that the ability to earn money occurs prior to the development of fiscal wisdom on how to invest this windfall?
