I'm not sure changing the system is the solution

Hanley, Klose, Zimmerman, Tettey and Krul are not going to be great with the ball whether we play 4 or 5 at the back. We just don't have the personnel to play out effectively from the back right now. They will make more mistakes and cost us more, than them keeping the ball will contribute towards our attack.

Playing five at the back will of course reduce the impact of the mistakes, as you say, but at the cost of stifling our attacking width and forcing us to play with one fewer attacking player.

All so we can play out from the back with players who are not suited to do so.
