not a single event but 297 people have died in the 97 year history if Everest ascents

with 2015 being the most deadliest year (18-22 the discrepancy being missing persons) mostly caused at base camp during the avalanche following the Nepal earthquake. 1997 being the most recent fatality free year. More than 200 bodies still remain on the mountain, the most famous being "Green Boots" a sherpa whose corpse is used as a marker on the North Eastern ridge route. He died in 1996.
