Didn't something very similar happen with Juventus after Italia 90?

They moved into that awful new built stadium, with no atmosphere and seats miles from the pitch? And after 10 years or so, ended up with ridiculously low attendances of less than half capacity?

It never got better for them, only continued to get worse until they felt compelled to build their own stadium - their own home. Which now has a superb atmosphere.

Given the deal on the London Stadium though, it's difficult to see how West Ham could do the same without taking an enormous financial hit. Which would be impossible when they are in the Championship!
