The case in point against Privatization...

Blame Thatcher!!

Seriously though, privatization has resulted in our states stupidly selling huge swaithes of their public assets to private owners, and then they withdraw state intervention in order to increase efficiency of market forces. We have no-one but ourselves to blame, as the reason it was all done was to lower taxes after the world recession in the mid 70's and for the South to pay the northern banks back.

Europe isn't ready to unite totally anyway, much of Eastern Europe experiences lives no different to places in Africa and South America, some worse. How on earth can we unite a superstate composed of nations that are at different positions along the road to development. As some one has stated it is all because the governments want someone to pin the blame on.
