it's been heavily implied that if ours doesn't join, it's the odd one out and will lose all of its relationships with the other local primaries and that the LEA is being run down so there'll be bugger all support.

I'm failing to see the advantages (political or financial) of having several MAT's each running 30 odd local schools vs an LEA running the same local schools, particularly as MAT staff seem to be ex LEA staff. Seem to be losing any advantages of independent action etc by being rolled onto one big MAT, and missing out on economies of scale/shared overheads that an LEA might bring, but what do I know.
