live football so here my very important view, which the FA should read and implement.
VAR should be used for OBJECTIVE decisions. Eg. Did the ball strike the players hand/was the defender the last person to touch the ball for a corner/was there any contact at all for a penalty award/was it offside. All quick and easy to send the message.
Anything else should not be referred to some other ref in a studio, as what's the point? Screens by the pitch are also no no.
Seems to me the Chelsea game used VAR in the right way, the Liverpool game did not. The Liverpool ref gave no penalty at first yet goes to watch the incident for 3 minutes. The Chelsea ref gave no penalty for the Willian thing and doesn't go and watch. Both are subjective incidents, both debateable so the original decision should stand. Why the inconsistency in approach?
