he probably thinks he still could offer us something if he was given a chance to play. And, even if not, he may have already invested or made plans with the earnings he will make from his contract with us. Which is fair enough.
Ultimately, we have a contract with him and we should have accounted for paying all of that when we signed him. If we don't want him any more, we should just pay off and get rid of him. Freezing him out, largely because he is a high earner, seems something akin to constructive dismissal and is pretty immoral imo.
