I don't think that's what he's saying.

I think the gist is just that we've gone a bit Soviet in our approach to it all, which isn't the same. Personally I tend to agree to an extent, though obviously being 2016 and not 1980 it's a lot more subtle and mediated in a much more refined way. That's not the same as not celebrating sporting success, which obviously we should. But also for an Olympic crowd to boo and whistle as the Brazilians have done is quite a departure.
