Whatever action we take is definitely the wrong action, and we're idiots for doing it.

Fact of the matter is that we see maybe 5% of what happens with transfers, and that's a 5% that agents leak to try to manoeuvre more money for themselves (if the relevant players get a bit more too that's nice, but it's not the main driver).

So it's quite hard ever to take a developed view on whether we've done well or badly.

There are exceptions, like last summer when we patently failed to do well enough. I have no idea if we're doing well or badly this summer - we've lost fewer than I thought we might by this point, though Brady and Olsson might still be on the way out (the notion that some sort of cover backish leftish might be a wise plan is unlikely to have escaped either the manager or the board, and I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume they're doing what they can on that).

All of which said I can't help thinking we'd have been better off without the agencies and with our new CEO in place - but what happened with McNally happened, sourcing a good-enough replacement CEO was never going to be fast, we are where we are, and we get on with doing what we can. No good wringing our hands or going down a spiral of ever-diminishing if-onlys.
