When he took over the reigns, where would you have hoped the club would be in 2016?

I think if someone told you that we would have been promoted 3 times and had 4 years in the premier league, you wouldn't have believed it.

Look at the fate of other clubs that have been relegated to league 1, although that list includes Leicester and Southampton, they have a lot of money pumped into them in a way we don't, a more sensible comparison might be Charlton, Sheffield United, Coventry or Forest (and even they have had more investment than we have).

The club was in a terrible mess. It's all too easy to look back and say "anyone couldhave fixed it", but that's absolute rubbish.

We massively punched above our weight in the year we got promoted from the championship first time round, as we did in the first two seasons in the premier league. Yes, both relegations seasons (assuming this will be one) have been disappointing and errors have been made, but we are also very fortunate that we bounced back last season and that was again down to decisive management at board level. Some might argue that Adams should never have been given the job in the first place, I'm sure most would agree in fact, but who's to say appointing some other journeyman manager would have yielded better results than Adams did, and who's to say we would then have appointed Alex Neil? Regardless of what has happened this season, that appointment was a master stroke.

Football fans being football fans will always ignore the success that has been enjoyed and moan that their club hasn't done even better. McNally and co could have done some things better, but wow, what a journey we've enjoyed while he's been here.

For that, I think he deserves legend status. The very existence of the club was in question when he arrived, we're now in the most stable position we've been in in decades. There is nothing more important than the club being in a stable position for the long-term benefit of all future supporters.
