but the discussion was (originally) about the distribution in England pre and post Sky, not compared to other European countries.

That said of course, although the greater disparity dates back to Sky's involvement that doesn't mean it was the cause. Once football became more popular (the 1990 World Cup, eradication of hooliganism after Hillsborough) and generated more income the big clubs were always going to want a bigger share. The FA set up the Premier League to head off a proposed Super League the big clubs threatened to set up precisely to get away from the more even distribution of TV money that then existed i.e. they were going to find a way to grab a bigger share whatever happened, Sky or no Sky.
