I think there is a pretty clear link between performances and results

Unless you don't consider shocking defending and missing chances to be part of the performance.

We've had spells where we've looked decent - including in the second half yesterday. But we've been so vulnerable defensively - even when having good spells in games - that it is disingenuous to suggest that we have been playing well.
