Not sure I agree that the performanes have generally been good -

they have invariably been terrible since the new year. The last three games have offered a bit of hope, but we have still defended pretty poorly for the most part.

The difference with Hughton is that he was still picking up points - 2 wins and 2 draws in the last two months, which was keeping our head above water, before the board acted rashly. There were some good performances in there as well, especially againt Spurs, Man City and Sunderland - and some other decent showings like in the losses to West Ham and Cardiff.

The worry this time is that we just can't defend properly. We need our forwards to score multiple goals just to get a point, which is not realistic. A few good spells in each game isn't going to count for much until we start keeping a few clean sheets.
