This belittling of Tom Smith
His Civil Service postings suggest a VERY interesting background.
MOD, FCO and Cabinet Office with 'foreign postings' suggest he worked in military intelligence. He might be a 'little old Norwich' appointment but I suspect there is a lot more to him than that.
