When you lose the ability to keep up when calling the action it's time to go.

Peter Allis is also one that the Beeb have clung on to for too long. Spends too much time now mumbling on about how great golf was 50 years ago, and talking about Sam Snead and other golfers the majority of the Beeb's audience would be too young to have ever seen play.

And gawd bless 'im, but Henry Blofeld is another. He's used rather more sparingly now, but when you rely on him to be your eyes and ears on the radio... it's not much good when his don't work as well as they did. There's only so much buses, cranes, planes and pigeons I can put up with.

I've loved all the above commentators in my time. I've grown up with them. But their deficencies now are only exacerbated by the new breed of commentators coming through.
