best bet with situations like this when technology has advanced leaps and bounds i find is to use up to date methodology to solve such problems. i therefore would recommend affixing the new thermostat directly on top of the old one to ensure it "synchs" correctly by using eight well positioned 6" nails. DO NOT risk using shorter nails to save money as it might fall off and render the manufacturers guarantee somewhat worthless. if there are any "loose" wires poking out of the unit simply ram these into the nearest socket and secure with araldite. let me know how you get on and post a review on trusted traders.
