For my knackered laptop drive, I managed to turn it into an external drive using a handy little cradle i found online that connects it up to another pc via usb and I can now retrieve files that way. So, bought the external sata cradle for a fiver, 64gb usb key for 15 quid and have hijacked the wife's laptop to copy files from my old laptop drive to the key simply by connecting both to her usb ports. I'll need a new hdd, but everything else is fine. some files seem unretrievable but so far nothing that matters, touch wood. As my windows 7 came preinstalled and without a disk, if I have a product key, is there some way I can get a new image of windows without having to go buy another copy? Or is that being too hopeful...
