Because they're English, we don't notice: very much like when fans don't notice/remember bad decisions going in their team's favour.
For Souness to comment credibly on this, all he has to do is say: "Well, I wasn't the fairest player myself at times - but I really don't like this". He can't do that, because he doesn't even recognise the sorts of things he did as wrong.
I find that basic point astounding - but it's very plainly the reality. He harks back to a time when thugs could be thugs. Ditto Alan Shearer - Neil Lennon ring any bells? - when he simultaneously calls for Suarez to face a "worldwide ban" while referring to dangerous elbows during France v Ecuador as "part and parcel of the game".
