On the basis that

there has potentially been a miscarriage of justice. Of course they will not want to be seen to undermine the judicial system, but if there is sufficient doubt then the case should be revisited. From what I understand about the case, I believe this should happen, and that the conviction has a fair chance of being overturned. That is just my opinion though.
