If you think of the manager as your boss

(it may not be the correct analogy but anyway)

and your boss changes and a new one comes in, how do you react? If the boss is an outside appointment, young, with relatively successful experience, albeit quite brief, do you think "Fuck this, I'm out of here!"? Or, rather, do you think "I'll give the guy a chance, he might be good for me and the company/firm/club/whatever."? I know other reactions are available, but the fact is that players are humans doing a job. A well paid and very enviable job, but they're still employees and looking out for themselves, working with others. Some of them aren't even that stupid, so will be able to see the bigger picture, no matter what anodyne nonsense they spout in interviews. (Some won't, obviously...). When you get a new boss, who are the colleagues you want to work with? Ones who can't deal with it or those willing to give it a go?

I guess what I'm saying is, a lot depends on how the players react, but we shouldn't assume that it'll all be negative. Change causes friction, and that may bring some good.

On the other hand, it may not work at all. One thing's for sure though - support makes a big difference: if the crowd gets behind the team, the players will play better. Fact, in small or big letters.
