find a local pub with a good selection and try lots?

I never got on with Scotch in my early days because my first experience of it was from a bottle of Laphroag from the back of my Dad's spirit cabinet.

However a good pub and good barman should be able to guide you through a selection of malts based on what you do/don't like as you try them.

Your post has made me want to find a good local pub now. Damnit. I'm supposed to be off the booze :-/
