Phelan may not have managerial experience but his general level of experience

P**ses all over Adams. He was our captain as a player and a genuine leader. He has coached the best team I. The country for a prolonged period which must have involved tactical input. Yes it would be a risk but in my view a lot less of a risk than the risk we have already taken.

Adams had NO experience of coaching a senior professional side and was given our job without having won a game whilst caretaker.

In an ideal world Phelan might not have been the no one managerial candidate but he would have been in the running for the managers job (which Adams should not have been) and right now feels like a much better option.
