and he had a bigger playing budget than Hughton. Thie problem there was McLeish and everyone's dislkie of him - all Lambert had to do to improve things was not be McLeish.

Hughton inherited a squad full of Football League players (how many of them are still playing in the Prem) that had carried the momentum of promotion and the advantage of being underestimated to survival (although that effect was already starting to wear off towards the end of the season).
