Any car types on here?

I have been told that I need a new suspension spring for my car (as I keep going over speed humps too quick). The bloke has told me that rather than get a new one, I should go 2nd hand, but it would be easier if I got the whole 'leg' and spring all in one.

Does anyone know the official name for the 'leg' that goes through the middle of the spring? Knowing the excellent customer service you get over the phone from a lot of Norwich garages (i.e. grunting), if I dont ask for eactly the right thing I could be in for an unnecessarily complicated phone call!
