Rendering issues

Rendering is normally the reason walls are damp, the rendering, if down to floor level actually retains the moisture in the walls and stops it from evaporation. This is especially true if the paint used on the render is waterproof paint. When I had a similar problem in my old home I was told to make sure there was at least a foot clear and above the damp proof course where the bricks or blocks were free to breathe. Find a decent building surveyor who can test the walls for you and give you some options. Cavity insulation or injected damp proof courses are not the way to resolve the situation.
