Well Ashcroft's polling suggests 18% of UKIP voters voted Lib Dem at the last GE. UKIP took chunks out of labour in the North. I think it's quite amazing how well the Tories maintained their vote tbh. Milliband has seriously dropped the ball for labour.

UKIP will potentially be a very credible party of protest. It doesn't matter what their underlying policies are, people know thye wont ever get any real power (think how bats**t mental many of the Lib Dem policies were through the 90s and early 00s, and how as a party they matured and became more electable the greater their representative base became).

Writing them off as some coalition of right wing loonies is too simplistic and is the exact reason why they've just made history.
