Unfair

He's not that bad - he's a chicken, yes, he plays ultra safe, true, but at least he has some idea positionally.

Hughes, though. Worst player I've seen in a City shirt? Well, hard to say, it's a competitive field. But I'm seriously challenged to name, in 30odd years of watching football, a player for any club who can actually be described as Worse Than Hughes. Equally pointless, useless, brainles, feckless, yes I could possibly name a few (Geoff Nulty, anyone?).

I'm not surprised we bought him - a manager can always be found who'll pay money for somebody who demonstrably cannot play football. What does surprise me is that he was once scouted, and offered terms somewhere.

He was the reason for our complete lack of any shape in the first half yesterday. I have absolutely no idea what he thought he was trying to achieve, or where he thought he was supposed to be playing.

And he's captain.
